So, I've seen Tangled twice since it came out. Let me start this post by saying that when I first started seeing the trailers this was my reaction; :<<< because all we saw of Rapunzel was her swinging around the tree and I passed her off as being unbearably ditzy.

As more and more trailers released, however, I started to reconsider my initial opinion. Am I ever glad I did!

Rapunzel, as a character in general was fan-freaking-tastic and I have been told by several friends that she reminds them of me. She's adorable and energetic and just the right amount of curious/adventurous to make Belle and Ariel stand back and applaud and she's ballsy. I think they did a fantastic job picking Mandy Moore to be her voice, I loved all the ways she utilized her hair and seriously, get me that friggen conditioner she uses! And let us never forget the frying pan of doom.

Flynn. Oh my god. I wanted to dislike him from the trailers so bad because he was just... ugh. from what I initially saw. In fact, for the first half of the movie I still wasn't sold on him. But when we got the big reveal about him (which I'm trying not to spoil for anyone) I laughed so hard I choked on my candy. Seriously. Somehow, that simple revelation made him go from jackass to adorkable and how sincere he was by the end of the movie! He might just be one of my favorite disney boys.

Mother Gothel. Oh. Oh she is the best step mother disney has ever produced and reminds me a bit of Ursula, I think it's her conniving ways and her song number (which. I. ADORE.). The thing about Gothel? She does seem to really care about Rapunzel as more than just her magical tool, or maybe I'm just being wishful. I'm sure some people out there are pissy because there wasn't some sort of epic show down, and in fact the climax was very quiet as far as things go but how she met her end was just kind of a lot of chilling.

Maximus. The creepiest/most adorable horse/dog thing in existence. And a far better animal sidekick than Pascal (who I just found a little creeper tbh). Max was friggen hilarious through the entire damn movie.

Queen and King. I loved the fact that the few moments we saw them were silent. I think it really just drove home the emotions of their scenes.

sdflksdjfl. I loved every song in this movie and it really felt like classic Disney. Everything from the "this is my life" song at the beginning to the BIG SQUISHY OH MY GOD DUET was amazing and memorable. Mother Gothel's song was sufficiently creepy and humorous at the same time and I'm not even going to really mention the bar song because it was so. friggen. adorably cheesy. (BUT THAT DUET, I SWEAR TO GOD EVERY TIME THEY START SINGING TO EACH OTHER MY LITTLE FANGIRL HEART WANTED TO EXPLODE).

Disney had to make a program from scratch to handle the hair in this movie. I think it was entirely worth the effort especially sense hair played such an integral part of the story.

But even beyond that everything was just gorgeous and I almost wish I'd seen it in 3D. The forest looked warm and alive, the tower was stunning and all the tiny details on the clothing (Mother Gothel's dress has hearts all over it, I didn't notice this the first time through) everyone's facial expressions were top notch and God, when Rapunzel started crying at the end you could see the lashes gathering moisture AND HER TINY LITTLE FRECKLES ON HER NOSE WERE FRIGGEN ADORABLE :freckle kink:

I loved just about all the character designs, the fact that Gothel's hair wasn't straight or pulled back but so full and curly and as the power faded in her you could see the little streaks of grey.

I think there are very, very few complaints I had with this movie. The only thing that springs to mind right now is the fact that I take issue with what Flynn did to free Rapunzel. I get why he did it and what it symbolizes but still, that was a big choice for him to make that in the end really only effects Rapunzel.

can her hair ever grow out again?

The first time I went and saw it was with a bunch of friends, two of whom I abused thoroughly throughout the movie with my happy fangirl flailing.

The second time I went to watch it was with my family. Mom cried at the big climax, Buddy is STILL running around declaring me Rapunzel :sigh: and Dad's only reaction was "it was weird." Which, really, is a pretty good reaction for him. All in all, I cannot WAIT for this to come out on DVD/Blu Ray

He is probably my favorite Disney boy. I am a sucker for the snarky, bad boy (as much as Disney does bad boys) with a heart of gold. And I loved the reveal that he'd named himself (and was telling stories to the other orphans, awwww).

Queen and King. I loved the fact that the few moments we saw them were silent. I think it really just drove home the emotions of their scenes.

Yes! And I loved that in the scene where they were releasing the balloons, it seemed like the king was even more emotional about it than the queen. Which I liked.

can her hair ever grow out again?

I'm going to go with no. Remember when she showed Flynn that piece of hair that was what the villainess had originally cut from her baby!self? I'm going to go with once the hair is gone, it's gone for good. (Not that it's beyond the realm of possibility for her to have other sun-powers since, you know, she kind of obviously does.)

Would you mind linking those? Or at least telling me where to look?

this (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/6514512/1/Tangled_Up_In_Your_Love) is a little series of one-shots that is, so far, my favorite. The wording can get a little repetitive at times, but the love for the characters and her dialogue makes it worth looking past that. (ff.net, who knew?)

I haven't seen the movie, I read the Wikipedia page, because I am an uncaring beast like that. Now I have to reconsider if I want to see it.
See, overall it seems good. But. One things.

Why does her hair turn brown? Why? Does it have some relevance, or is it just, "We must make the loss of her hair more traumatic. Let's make it BROWN. Because no-one likes brown hair."
And that bugs me so much that I don't want to see the movie. Is there any explanation for it?

her hair is supposed to be brown, naturally. It was blonde to represent her sunlight powers (that's the entire thing, the flower that gothel was using to stay young was taken by the kingdom to save the queen who was ill while pregnant. it gave rapunzel the same powers as the magic flower). When they cut her hair, she lost the magical ability so her hair turned back to the way it should have been if the flower had never existed.

(and it's actually adorable, because Flynn looks at her and is like "did I ever tell you, I have a thing for brunettes?"

to represent her sunlight powers
represent her sunlight powers
Never change, Disney.
Okay, that makes more sense. I still don't really like the "hair changes to blonde with speshul" think, but that was my only objection.
Now I must plot a way to convince a parental unit to take me1

I LOVE this review! I don't think that I've read a review for a movie that was this in depth before. Brilliantly written (and it's the second time that i've read it, lol).

I also don't think that I've ever squee'd more with any other Disney movie than I did with this one. It was full of those and awwwww's and "how cute!"s and a crying moment.

All in all, I cannot WAIT for this to come out on DVD/Blu Ray

You and me both! I look forward to seeing what extra features that they have on there! Hopefully if there are scenes that were deleted, they were fully animated and all that. *crosses fingers*

On the hair thing: I don't think so either. Poor girl. :(

eeeee! thank you, that's very sweet of you to say so :) I'm a huge fan of this movie, and as a huge Disney dork in general I'm so happy they didn't half-ass anything in this movie.

I'm also glad to see so many other Tangled fans around :D

You're welcome! It's the truth. Things for me personally have been kinda topsy-turvy crazy lately, so I've not had a chance to see it in theaters, but I did manage to see it. *looks around furtively*

This movie is one of my favorite Disney films! Granted, Beauty and the Beast, at the moment, is my number 1 favorite movie by Disney, but chances are, after watching this one a few more times, that might change. What I loved was that (and I didn't know this prior to reading it on your post or somewhere else) was that Disney created a WHOLE program just so they could animate her hair when it was long. They could have just went "meh" and not worried about it, but they didn't.

OH! And you mentioned something about Mother Gothel reminding you of Ursula? I COMPLETELY HAD THAT FEELING TOO!!! Gothel just CREEPED me out in a lot of ways.

:D Did you see the Princess and the Frog? If so, what did you think of it?

I took a look at your interests list and I saw that we're on a few similar communities. Friends? (I'd love to chat on a messenger sometime if you're game.)

I REALLY NEED MOAR! ICON SPACE. I want at least ONE Tangled icon.....

Beauty and the Beast is my other top favorite! Tangled is definitely trying to elbow it out of the way though!

It's kind of ironic that those two are so similar, when Ursula was trying to convince Ariel that yes, going land side is a great idea! and Gothel was trying to convince Rapunzel to stay in her nice, safe and familiar tower.

We actually own PatF and I have watched it several thousand times, about a hundred with the commentary on :3 I'm from Louisiana so I kept a close eye on a lot of the shenanigans they were pulling and I approve of most of them. The accents weren't terribly cliched, Ray was my favorite character ever and I adored the fact that Charlotte and Tiana were such good friends.

I like the songs, but I still feel like the lyrics are a little repetitive and they don't stick with me very well. (my favorite was the "Gonna take you there" because here in town you used to be able to go to this family run restaurant and there would be a zydeco band playing outside, so it was like a piece of home).

Dr. Facilier, while amusing as hell, I felt was kind of weak as a villain, you know? (but his design was spot on and his song was awesome).

I loved the animation and I thought Tiana was very pretty, if a bit of a one note character. (the scene where the poachers in the river speed off, the way they drew the waves is a homage to Hayao Miyazaki)

All in all, I like the movie well enough, probably on par with Sleeping Beauty for me, but it's not one of my favorites. I feel like the story-line was a little...rushed?

I'm in AIM as Rai No Ai. Technically i'm logged on tonight but I'm working on my secret santa fic for a story exchange :p

and friends, definitely ♥ :adds you:

Wow.....it's sad that it's taken me THIS long to reply back to your comment. I fail, clearly.

Did you get Beauty and The Beast when it came out on DVD and Blu-Ray for a limited time? It's done so only a few other times, and this time, despite the fact that I was getting SO low on money, I couldn't resist buying it.

LOLOL! that you've watched it so many times. I've only seen it once or twice, so I definitely need to watch it some more times. Ray was absolutely ADORABLE! I wanted to hug and squish him (but in a good way on the latter). Charlotte cracked me up SOO badly. *shakes head*

I'd have to watch it again before I comment on the lyrics being a bit repetitive, though maybe that comes from you having seen it so many times?? *shrugs*

You thought Dr. Facilier was weak as a villain? *ponders* Well, I suppose so, if you compare him to the other Disney villains. (I agree with you, based on what little I can remember, that his design and song were GREAT!) I'd have to say the Mother Goethel DEFINITELY creeps me out a lot more than he did. He creeped me out, being that he was into voodoo and all that, and just the way he moved and his nuances and some of the looks he'd get were just *shudders*. Goethel though.......*gulps* She freaked me out ten times more, and it totally gave me the heebies.

Tiana was pretty, and I thought that there was a bit more that they could have done with her character, because it got a bit dull to just hear her talk the whole movie about wanting her own restaurant. There wasn't any character growth for her, I felt. :( And oooh really? (about the waves) I totally didn't know that! Did they say that on the commentary?

So if forced to choose, which one would you say that you like more: PatF OR Sleeping Beauty? *grins evilly*

And I know what you mean about the story-lilne being rushed. They definitely could have slowed it down a bit.

*tries to remember the last time that we chatted* Was it before Christmas??

So, my friend came over and she hadn't seen Tangled yet. I went and watched it with her :) Pinocchio makes a cameo and Flynn is left handed.

I did get it! We watched it on DVD and then later I watched it on Blu Ray, SO different and bright! It felt like watching it for the first time!

It -might- be that I've watched it so many times, but I've watched Aladdin and BatB and The Little Mermaid -waaaay- more and they never feel repetitive =/ Idk, maybe it's just that I'm older?

Faclilier as a -person- was creepy as sin. As a villain he was very luke-warm. But I am interested in his back story, like how did he get into voo-doo and all that jazz? I love reading fics like that to explore him :)

They did say it on the commentary! And all sorts of other things, like the VA for Ray is actually -from- New Orleans. Commentaries are really interesting, me thinketh :)

UUUUGH PatF, hands down and easily :p

We chatted Christmas Eve, I've been redonk busy since then :x and haven't been on line much :snuggles:
